Generate web experiments

Tools main page

Experiment Generator lets you create simple experiments easily by making relatively simple definitions in an Excel file. Experiment Generator will convert your Excel file, which contains the experiment configuration, into a web page that fully contains the experiment software. This web page is written in HTML and javascript, and is based on the jsPsych platform. The page can be uploaded to any website, run immediately on our website, or run locally on your computer.

To run Experiment Generator, go to this page.

There are 3 simple stages to creating an experiment:

  1. Define all details of your experiment by creating a configuration file.
  2. Upload the configuration file.
  3. Choose whether you want the experiment software to be run immediately, or you’d rather download the generated web page.

Basic features of Experiment Generator

  • Show one or more text stimuli in each trial (pictures, sounds, etc. are currently not supported)
  • Easily define trial flow (stimuli can appear simultaneously or one after another)
  • Multiple trial types, with a different flow for each trial
  • Participant can respond in two ways:
    • Via the keyboard – one key per trial
    • Via the mouse – click one of several response buttons.
  • Control stimulus features (font, size, position, and essentially anything configurable in CSS).
  • Results are downloaded by the participant as a CSV file.
  • The generated experiment can be downloaded as a single HTML file (to upload on your own website), as a zip containing the experiment and jsPsych (to run locally on your computer), or run immediately on this website.
